Young players prefer games to continuous footwork drills, and if you want to keep their attention, you’d better comply. But you can teach them something while they have fun. Here are some drills that also offer competition. By the way, we recommend exploring the entire footy4kids site, which has much more than the one drill mentioned below.
FAST ATTACK
A great drill that is both exhausting and very popular, Fast Attack teaches players that they can’t just watch the ball after they’ve taken a shot or lost the dribble. Click below for a Word doc explaining the drill:

TRIANGLE DRILL
The Triangle is an excellent drill that teachers kids to move after they pass the ball. And there are several variations and games that can be played off this drill.

YOU’RE OUTTA HERE
A game which encourages kids to pass the ball in order to succeed, and also shows outnumbered defenders the importance of clearing the ball.

COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK
What’s more important than that? Not much. Check it out here:

ANIMATED DRILLS
Animation really does make a difference in trying to understand a drill. By going to this section of SoccerPerformance.org you’ll better understand some of the attacking and defending drills you might find elsewhere on this site.
